Barrel plating is normally used for smaller parts they are placed inside a barrel and rotated, providing a more uniform finish. It may be rack plating for larger parts, where parts are affixed to metal racks and placed inside the tank containing the plating bath and remain stationary or barrel plating. Zinc plating procedures: After solution preparation, the appropriate method is chosen for plating.Acid zinc – A widely used plating technology known for its efficiency with fast deposition and superior covering power.There are specific types of zinc electrolyte solutions. It consists of the zinc metal ionic solution and various chemicals that facilitate plating processes and help produce the desired chemical and physical properties of the finished product. Plating solution is prepared: The substrate requires immersion into a specially formulated electrolyte solution referred to as the plating bath.Alkaline detergent solution is used for cleaning, followed by an acid treatment to remove any surface rust (referred to as pickling). Debris and contaminants remaining on the surface will prevent proper adhesion of the zinc coating. I also saw a clear top coat pearl finish so you can give a metallic like finish on any color. ![]() I recommend using the shiny finish metallics with more decorative pieces, it tarnishes with oils from your hands and water will leave spots. Works good for a surface with some imperfections. Ive also used some of the hammered metal finishes. You can see how the finish is more shiny like metal over the other metallic pictured above. The copper, yellow gold and silver are the Rust-Oleum. Now, onto more Rust-Oleum metallic style finishes. Dupli Color is the blue, was discounted way back when so I dont remember the color… The blue is auto paint all the rest are Rust-Oleum metallics. You can see the Titanium Silver is pretty close in color too. It happens sometimes… The two pint size jars below are the Krylon and Rust-oleumsilvers. Has that shimmer finish and a nice silver. The mini jar shown here is the Titanium Silver. Pretty close in color, the Dark Steel has a bit more of a shiner finish.(Dark Steel jar on right) The middle Jar is called Metallic Warm Gold 286524. I flipped the jars so you could see the finish more. I Love all these colors! They all have a shimmer finish. Of course I had to try the Sea Mist, hello… Aqua! haha. More colors, Champagne Pink, Pearl Mistand Sea Mist. Rust-oleums Metallic Rust and Sienna Mist. Champagne Mist, Krylon Copper, Aged Copper, Flat Burnished Amber, Satin Nickle, Oil Rubbed Bronze. Im going to list the colors in my pictures. Rust-Oleum Metallic is a shimmer type finish and very smooth. I’ll keep updating this post as I try more colors. I haven’t tried all the colors just yet but have used a bunch when I sold mason jars on the internet.
